Why Is Figma Running Slow?

Last updated on November 30, 2022 @ 3:56 am

There are a few reasons why your Figma file might be running slow. Here are some potential causes and solutions:

    1. Your file is too big or has too many assets. If your file is over 10 MB, it’s likely that it’s too big or has too many assets. Try removing some unused assets or breaking your file up into smaller files. You can also try reducing the number of layers in your file.

    2. You’re using too many plugins. If you’re using a lot of plugins, they can slow down your file. Try removing some plugins or only using the ones you really need.

    3. Your computer isn’t powerful enough. If you’re on a laptop or an older computer, it might not be powerful enough to run Figma smoothly. Try closing other programs and files you have open, and see if that helps.

    4. There’s a problem with the Figma servers.

If none of the above solutions work, it’s possible that there’s a problem with the Figma servers. Try reloading your file or restarting Figma to see if that solves the issue.

PRO TIP: If you are experiencing slow performance in Figma, there are a few things you can do to speed things up:

1. Check your internet connection – A slow or unreliable internet connection can cause performance issues in Figma. Make sure you have a strong and stable connection before using Figma.

2. Close other applications – If you have other applications running in the background, this can affect Figma’s performance. Close any applications that you’re not using to free up resources for Figma.

3. Enable Hardware Acceleration – Hardware Acceleration can improve Figma’s performance on computers with compatible graphics cards. To enable Hardware Acceleration, go to your Account settings (https://www.figma.com/account) and check the box next to “Enable Hardware Acceleration.”

4. Clear your browser cache – Your browser may be storing old data that is no longer needed, which can slow down Figma. Clearing your browser cache will remove this old data and help speed up Figma.
