Why Won’t My Shopify Card Reader Connect?

Last updated on October 1, 2022 @ 2:12 pm

If you’re having trouble connecting your Shopify card reader, there are a few things you can try:

1. Make sure your card reader is turned on

The first thing to check is whether your card reader is turned on.

To do this, look for a small power button on the side or back of the device. If the button is red or orange, that means the reader is off. Press and hold the power button until the light turns green to turn it on.

2. Check that your card reader is connected to your iOS device

Once your card reader is turned on, check that it’s properly connected to your iOS device.

For Bluetooth card readers, this means making sure the Bluetooth connection is active. For Lightning card readers, this means making sure the Lightning cable is plugged in correctly.

PRO TIP: If you are having trouble connecting your Shopify card reader to your device, there are a few things you can try:

1. Make sure that the Shopify app is up to date.

2. Restart your device.

3. Ensure that your device’s Bluetooth is turned on and that it is within range of the card reader.

4. If you are using an iPhone, make sure that Location Services is turned on for the Shopify app.

If you are still having trouble, please contact Shopify Support for further assistance.

3. Try restarting your iOS device

If you’ve checked both of the above and you’re still having trouble connecting your card reader, try restarting your iOS device. This can often resolve minor software issues that might be preventing the connection.
