How Do I Go Back to Normal Mode in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 3:31 pm

To return to normal mode in Photoshop, simply press the letter “N” on your keyboard. This will toggle you back and forth between normal and quick mask modes. You can also access normal mode by clicking on the “Normal Mode” button in the toolbar.

PRO TIP: If you are using Photoshop in ‘normal mode’, be aware that you may experience unexpected results. This is because Photoshop is designed to function in ‘expert mode’. To avoid this, always make sure to switch back to ‘expert mode’ before using any tools or commands.

If you find yourself in quick mask mode more often than not, you can change the default behavior of the “N” key by going into the Preferences menu. Under the General tab, you’ll see an option for “Use Normal Mode for Quick Mask.” Checking this box will make it so that pressing “N” always takes you into normal mode, regardless of your current location.

Conclusion:

Pressing the “N” key is the quickest way to return to normal mode in Adobe Photoshop. You can also click on the “Normal Mode” button in the toolbar or change your preferences so that pressing “N” always defaults to normal mode.
