Can I Edit a PDF in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 1:52 pm

You can’t directly edit a PDF in Photoshop, but there are a couple of workarounds you can use. One is to open the PDF in Photoshop as a Smart Object.

This converts the PDF into a Photoshop file, and then you can edit it as you would any other image. The downside to this method is that it can be slow, and the file size can quickly become very large.

Another way to edit a PDF in Photoshop is to first convert it to a PNG or JPG image. You can do this using any number of online converters or even just opening the PDF in Preview on a Mac and exporting it as an image.

Once you have your image, open it up in Photoshop and make your edits as normal. When you’re done, you can save it as a PDF again using Photoshop’s ‘Save As’ function.

PRO TIP: Can I Edit a PDF in Photoshop?

You may be able to edit a PDF in Photoshop if the PDF is unlocked and not password-protected. However, you will not be able to edit all PDFs in Photoshop, and some edits may not be saved when you close the file.

So, while you can’t directly edit a PDF file in Photoshop, there are ways to work around that issue. By either converting the PDF to an image or opening it as a Smart Object, you can still get the job done.
