When you create a Droplet on DigitalOcean, you are given a set of droplet specs which include the CPU, memory, storage, and operating system. However, you can always upgrade your Droplet to have a more powerful processor or more memory if you need it.

To upgrade your Droplet, first login to your account and open the Droplet’s Settings page. Under the “Droplet Details” section, you will see a “Upgrades” button.

Clicking on this button will take you to the “Upgrades” page, where you can select the upgrade type that you want to perform.

There are three types of upgrades that you can perform on a Droplet:

1. CPU Upgrade:

You can upgrade your Droplet’s CPU by selecting the “CPU” option from the “Upgrades” menu and selecting the CPU type that you want to use. There are two options on the “CPU Type” page – “Intel” and “AMD”.

If you are using an Intel CPU, you can choose between the “Intel Xeon” and “Intel Core” options. If you are using an AMD CPU, you can choose between the “AMD Opteron” and “AMD A4” options.

PRO TIP: If you are considering upgrading your droplet in DigitalOcean, be aware that there is potential for data loss. Make sure to back up your data before proceeding with any upgrade.

2. Memory Upgrade:

You can upgrade your Droplet’s memory by selecting the “Memory” option from the “Upgrades” menu and selecting the memory type that you want to use. There are three options on the “Memory Type” page – “GB” (gigabytes), “GBL” (gigabytes, limited), and “TB” (terabytes).

3. Storage Upgrade:

You can upgrade your Droplet’s storage by selecting the “Storage” option from the “Upgrades” menu and selecting the storage type that you want to use. There are two options on the “Storage Type” page – “GB” (gigabytes) and “TB” (terabytes).

After selecting the upgrade type, you will be taken to the “Upgrades” page where you will be able to select the upgrade package that you want to use. There are three options on the “Upgrade Package” page – “Standard”, “Premium”, and “Ultimate”.

The “Standard” upgrade package is the default option and it includes the CPU, memory, and storage upgrades that are listed on the “Droplet Details” page. The “Premium” upgrade package includes additional upgrades, such as a data center upgrade and a private IP address.

The “Ultimate” upgrade package includes the most advanced upgrades, such as a faster CPU and more memory.

After selecting the upgrade package, you will be taken to the “Upgrades” page where you will be able to review the upgrade details and choose whether to proceed with the upgrade. If you decide to proceed with the upgrade, you will be taken to the “Upgrade Complete” page where you will be able to confirm the upgrade and receive your new Droplet specs.
