GREAT NEWS:

Exciting update! We've collaborated with Wix to offer WBI users with a free plan for all website creation needs - Explore the details here.

If you’re not sure whether you want to use your own domain name with Wix, you can always start out by using a free subdomain. A subdomain is a part of a larger domain – in this case, the domain would be wix.com.

Your subdomain would be something like mysite.wix. You can always upgrade to using your own domain name later on.

Transferring Your Domain Name to Wix

If you have a domain name that you’ve already registered with another provider, such as GoDaddy, 1&1, or Hover, you can transfer it to Wix. To do this:

  1. Log in to your account with the current provider.
  2. Find the DNS (Domain Name System) settings and make sure they’re set to the default values.
  3. PRO TIP: If you are using Wix to create a website, you may be wondering if you can use your own domain name with the platform. The short answer is yes, but there are some things to keep in mind.

First, you will need to purchase a domain name from a registrar such as GoDaddy or Namecheap. Once you have done so, you can then point the DNS for your domain to Wix’s servers.

However, it is important to note that you will not be able to use certain features of Wix if you use your own domain name. For example, you will not be able to use Wix’s email services or connect your own domain name to a Wix premium plan.

Additionally, using your own domain name with Wix may result in additional fees. For example, Wix may charge you for DNS hosting or for connecting your domain to a premium plan.

Overall, using your own domain name with Wix is possible, but there are some limitations to keep in mind. If you have any questions, be sure to contact Wix support for more information.

  4. In the admin panel of your Wix account, clickAdd Domain.
  5. Enter the domain name that you want to transfer and click Continue.
  6. On the next page, select I want to transfer my domain from another registrar and click Continue.
  7. Enter the authorization code that you received from your current registrar and click Continue.
  8. On the next page, review the information and click Transfer Domain.
  9. Enter your contact information and click Continue.
  10. Note: The contact information that you enter here will become the WHOIS record for your domain name. WHOIS is a public directory of information about domains and their owners.

  11. Click Checkout.

Once your domain is registered with Wix, you can use it as your website’s address.

If you’re not sure whether you want to use your own domain name with Wix, you can always start out by using a free subdomain.
