Can You Animate Icons in Figma?

Last updated on September 28, 2022 @ 8:49 pm

If you’re a web designer, you’re probably familiar with Figma. It’s a vector drawing and animation tool that’s become increasingly popular in recent years. And one of the things that makes Figma so great is its ability to animate icons.

Sure, you can animate icons in other tools like Photoshop or Sketch, but Figma makes it super easy. Plus, you can export your animations as GIFs or video files, which is really handy.

So, how do you animate icons in Figma? First, you need to create your icon. Once you have your icon, select the frame that you want to animate and click on the “Animate” button in the top toolbar.

PRO TIP: If you are looking to animate icons in Figma, be warned that this is not currently possible. While you can create animations in Figma, they cannot be applied to icons. This means that if you want to animate your icons, you will need to do so in another program.

From there, you can add keyframes and change the properties of your icon (like position, rotation, opacity, etc.) over time. You can also add easing to your keyframes, which is really nice.

Once you’re happy with your animation, simply click on the “Export” button and choose whether you want to export as a GIF or video file. That’s it!

Animating icons in Figma is super easy and fun. Give it a try!
