Can You Group Frames in Figma?

Last updated on September 28, 2022 @ 9:27 pm

As a design tool, Figma is used to create vector illustrations and interface designs. However, one of its lesser-known features is the ability to group frames.

This can be a useful way to organize your design project, or to create repeating elements such as a grid.

To group frames in Figma, simply select the frames you want to group together and press cmd + g (Mac) or ctrl + g (Windows/Linux). Alternatively, you can right-click on one of the selected frames and select “Group” from the menu. Once grouped, the frames will be surrounded by a blue dashed line.

If you need to ungroup frames, select the group and press cmd + shift + g (Mac) or ctrl + shift + g (Windows/Linux), or right-click on the group and select “Ungroup” from the menu. You can also double-click on a group to enter “group editing mode”, which allows you to move or delete individual frames within the group.

Conclusion:

You can use grouping to organize your Figma projects or create repeating elements. To group frames, select them and press cmd + g (Mac) or ctrl + g (Windows/Linux). You can ungroup frames by pressing cmd + shift + g (Mac) or ctrl + shift + g (Windows/Linux).

PRO TIP: If you are working on a complex design in Figma, you may want to group frames together to keep your work organized. However, be aware that grouping frames can cause problems when you try to export your design. Additionally, if you need to make changes to a frame that is part of a group, you will need to ungroup the frames first.
