Can You Outline a Layer in Photoshop?

It is definitely possible to outline a layer in Photoshop- and there are a few different ways that you can do it, too!

1. Using the Pen Tool

One way to outline a layer in Photoshop is by using the Pen tool. First, make sure that the layer you want to outline is selected in the Layers panel. Then, select the Pen tool from the Tools panel or press P on your keyboard.

Click around the edge of the layer to create anchor points. As you click, the line will curve to connect the anchor points.

To create a straight line, hold down Shift as you click. When you’re finished outlining the layer, click on the first anchor point you created to close the path.

2. Using a Stroke Layer Effect

Another way to outline a layer in Photoshop is by using a stroke layer effect. Then, click on the “Add a Layer Style” button at the bottom of the Layers panel and select “Stroke” from the list of options.
