How Do I Add a Canvas Effect in Photoshop?

There are a few different ways that you can add a canvas effect in Photoshop. One way is to use the filter options. Go to Filter > Other > High Pass. This will bring up a dialog box.

Choose a radius that is high enough to catch all the details in your image, but not so high that it starts to look blurry. A good rule of thumb is to use a radius that is about one third of the size of your image. Once you have chosen a radius, click OK.

Your image will now look like it has a canvas texture. To complete the effect, go to Edit > Fade High Pass and set the mode to Overlay. This will help blend the effect into your image for a more realistic look.

Another way to create a canvas effect is to use the Texture Maker filter. Go to Filter > Filter Gallery > Texture Maker.

PRO TIP: Adding a canvas effect in Photoshop can result in a distorted or blurred image. Be sure to check your image quality before applying this effect.

This will bring up a dialog box with several different options. Choose the one that you think looks best for your image and click OK.

As with the High Pass filter, you may need to go to Edit > Fade Texture Maker and set the mode to Overlay to help blend the effect into your image.

There are also several Photoshop plugins that can help you create a canvas effect, such as Topaz Impression or onOne Perfect Effects. These plugins usually have more options and controls than the built-in filters, so they can be helpful if you want more control over the final look of your image.

No matter which method you use, experiment until you find one that you like best!
