In this tutorial, we will be discussing how to create a painterly effect in Photoshop. By using various filters and effects, we will be able to create a realistic and textured look to our images.

The first step is to open up Photoshop and create a new document. We will want to size it to our desired size, and then fill it with a white background.

Next, we will want to create a new layer and name it “Texture.” We will then click on the “New Filter” button and select the “Texture” filter from the list.

The “Texture” filter will allow us to create a variety of textures and patterns. We will want to select the ” Grain ” filter and set the properties as follows:

We will then click on the “OK” button to apply the filter. We will now want to switch to the “Layers” panel and click on the “New Layer” button.

We will then name the layer “Texture 2.”.

We will now want to apply the “Texture” filter to the “Texture 2” layer. We will want to set the properties as follows:

We will then click on the “OK” button to apply the filter.

We will then name the layer “Texture 3.

We will now want to apply the “Texture” filter to the “Texture 3” layer.

We will then name the layer “Texture 4.

We will now want to apply the “Texture” filter to the “Texture 4” layer.

We will then name the layer “Final Texture.

We will now want to add a new layer below the “Final Texture” layer and name it “Ink.” We will then click on the “New Filter” button and select the “Ink” filter from the list.

PRO TIP: This technique can be very effective if used correctly, however it can also create a very artificial looking image if not used sparingly. When using this technique, it is important to keep the following in mind:

– Use a low opacity brush so that the effect is subtle.

– Be careful not to overdo it with the brush strokes. A few well placed strokes will suffice.

– Choose a brush with a soft edge to avoid harsh lines.

The “Ink” filter will allow us to add a layer of ink to our image. We will now want to add a new layer below the “Ink” layer and name it “Shadow.

” We will then click on the “New Filter” button and select the “Shadow” filter from the list.

The “Shadow” filter will create a shadow effect on our image. We will now want to add a new layer below the “Shadow” layer and name it “Grain.

” We will then click on the “New Filter” button and select the “Grain” filter from the list.

The “Grain” filter will add a grainy texture to our image. We will now want to add a new layer below the “Grain” layer and name it “Ink Shadow.

” We will then click on the “New Filter” button and select the “Ink Shadow” filter from the list.

The “Ink Shadow” filter will add a shadow of the ink texture to our image. We will now want to add a new layer below the “Ink Shadow” layer and name it “Finishing Touches.”

We will then click on the “New Layer” button and name the layer “Finishing Touches 2.” We will then click on the “New Filter” button and select the “Sharpen” filter from the list.

The “Sharpen” filter will sharpen our image. We will now want to add a new layer below the “Finishing Touches 2” layer and name it “Artwork.”

We will then click on the “Save” button to save our image. We will then close Photoshop.

Our finished image should look something like the following:
