How Do I Add a Captcha to a Form in Squarespace?

A CAPTCHA is a program that can generate and grade tests that humans can pass but current computer programs cannot. CAPTCHAs are used by many websites to prevent abuse from “bots,” or automated programs usually written to generate spam. By adding a CAPTCHA test to your forms, you can help protect your website from spam and abuse.

There are many different CAPTCHA tests in use today, but the most common is the text-based CAPTCHA. With a text-based CAPTCHA, you provide a series of letters or numbers that appear in an image.

The user is then required to type those letters or numbers into a form field. If the user types the correct characters, the form is submitted.

PRO TIP: Please be aware that adding a Captcha to a form in Squarespace can be a complex process and may not always work as expected. If you are not comfortable with coding or troubleshooting, we recommend seeking out a professional to help you with this.

Adding a CAPTCHA test to your Squarespace form is easy. First, create a new Form Block or edit an existing one. In the Form Builder, click the Security tab and select “Enable CAPTCHA.”

Once you’ve enabled CAPTCHA, you can choose which type of CAPTCHA test you’d like to use: text, audio, or image. We recommend using the text-based CAPTCHA test, as it’s the most accessible option for users.

After you’ve selected your CAPTCHA type, click Save and then Publish to make your form live on your site.

That’s all there is to it! By adding a CAPTCHA test to your Squarespace forms, you can help protect your site from spam and abuse.
