How Do I Add a Library in Figma?

Last updated on December 27, 2022 @ 9:43 am

Libraries in Figma provide a way to reuse elements across projects. When you add a library to your file, you can use any of the components in that library in your design. You can also update the library, and those changes will be reflected in your file.

To add a library in Figma, just follow these simple steps:

1. Open the file you want to be a library.

2. Convert the frames into components. To do this, select the frame and click on the “Create component” tool at the top. Repeat this same method for the other frames.

3. Once done, select the “Assets” tab on the left menu and click on the “book” icon.

4. Lastly, in the window that will appear, select the “Publish” button.

NOTE: Please note that only members of Professional teams will be able to publish components.

PRO TIP: If you are not careful, adding a library in Figma can result in losing work. Make sure to back up your design before adding a library, and be aware that any changes made to the library will be reflected in your design.

Libraries are a great way to reuse elements across projects, and they can be updated so that those changes are reflected across all files that use them.
