How Do I Add a Payment Provider to Shopify?

Last updated on January 9, 2023 @ 6:52 pm

When you first sign up for Shopify, you’re asked to choose your primary payment provider. This is the payment provider that will be used to process transactions for all of the products in your shop.

You can always change your primary payment provider later from your shop’s Settings.

If you’re using Shopify Payments, then you don’t need to add a third-party payment provider. However, if you’re not using Shopify Payments, or if you want to offer your customers more payment options, then you can add additional payment providers to your shop. Adding a payment provider is a two-step process:

  1. Step One: Choose a Payment Provider

Not all payment providers are available in all countries. To see which providers are available to you, go to Shopify Admin, and then click Settings.

Under Store settings, click Payment providers. On the Payment providers page, select the checkbox next to each provider that you want to add.

  2. Step Two: Configure Your Payment Provider Settings

After you’ve selected your payment providers, click Save changes. For each of the providers that you selected, click (Configure). You’ll be taken to the settings page for that particular provider where you can enter your account credentials and configure any additional options.

PRO TIP: Adding a payment provider to your Shopify store is a quick and easy way to take payments online. However, there are a few things you should keep in mind before adding a payment provider to your store.

First, make sure that the payment provider you choose is compatible with Shopify. Not all payment providers are compatible with all shopping carts, so it’s important to check compatibility before signing up for an account.

Second, be aware of the fees associated with the payment provider you choose. Some providers charge monthly fees, while others charge per-transaction fees. Make sure you understand the fees associated with your provider before adding them to your store.

Finally, keep in mind that adding a payment provider to your store will require you to enter some sensitive information, such as your credit card number or bank account information. Be sure to only enter this information on a secure, encrypted page.
