How Do I Add Components in Figma?

Last updated on September 28, 2022 @ 9:33 pm

If you’re new to Figma, or even design in general, you may be wondering how to add different elements to your project. In Figma, these elements are called “components.”

Adding components in Figma is a breeze. First, make sure you have the “Layers” panel open (1). Then, select the element you want to turn into a component (2).

PRO TIP: Please be aware that adding components in Figma can be a complex process. If you are not familiar with the software, we recommend that you seek out guidance from a professional before attempting to add components.

With the element selected, click the “Create Component” button in the top toolbar (3). A modal will appear asking you to name your new component. You can also choose whether or not to include this new component in your library (4).

Once you’ve named your new component and made your selections, click “Create” (5) and voilà! Your element is now a reusable component. The next time you need to use it, simply drag it from your library onto the canvas.
