How Do I Animate Frame by Frame in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 23, 2022 @ 9:50 pm

There are multiple ways to animate frame by frame in Photoshop, but the most common and user-friendly method is to use the timeline feature. To access the timeline, go to Window > Timeline.

In the timeline, you will see a series of empty frames. To add content to a frame, simply click on the frame and then add your content using the Photoshop tools. Once you have added your content, you can move to the next frame by clicking on the forward arrow icon or pressing the right arrow key on your keyboard.

PRO TIP: If you are not careful when animating frame by frame in Photoshop, you may create an animation that is too fast or too slow. Also, if you do not have a consistent frame rate, your animation may appear jumpy.

To preview your animation, click on the play button in the timeline or press the spacebar on your keyboard. To stop your animation, click on the stop button or press the spacebar again.

When you are happy with your animation, you can export it as a gif or video file by going to File > Export > Export As and selecting the desired file format.
