How Do I Block a Country on Shopify?

Last updated on October 2, 2022 @ 3:40 am

There are a few reasons you might want to block a country from accessing your Shopify store. Maybe you’re only shipping to certain countries, or you’re not set up to do business in a specific country yet. Whatever the reason, blocking a country on Shopify is easy to do.

In your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Shipping and delivery.

Under Shipping zones, click Add shipping zone.

Enter a name for the shipping zone in the Zone name field. For example, “Blocked countries”.

In the Country field, start typing the name of the country that you want to block and then click it when it appears in the drop-down menu. You can add multiple countries to the shipping zone.

Click Save.

Now that you’ve added the countries you want to block to a shipping zone, you need to add a rule that will prevent orders from being placed from that shipping zone. To do this:

Under Shipping zones, next to the shipping zone that you want to add a rule to, click Manage rules.

Click Create rule.

In the If an item.. drop-down menu, select is located in one of these regions. Then, in the second drop-down menu, select the region that contains the countries you want to block.

For example, if you’re blocking France and Germany, you would select “Europe”.

Now that you’ve added the countries you want to block to a shipping zone and created a rule for that shipping zone, orders placed from those countries will be automatically canceled.

PRO TIP: If you are considering blocking a country on Shopify, please be aware that this could have negative consequences for your business. It is possible that blocking a country could lead to lost sales and customers, as well as decreased traffic to your store. Additionally, blocking a country could also result in increased shipping costs and delivery times.
