How Do I Change a White Background to Transparent in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 23, 2022 @ 10:52 pm

There are many times when you may want to change a white background to transparent in Photoshop. Perhaps you have a logo or image with a white background that you want to use on a website, and the background is getting in the way.

Maybe you have a photo that would look better with a transparent background. Whatever the reason, changing a background from white to transparent is actually quite easy to do in Photoshop.

Here are the steps to take to make a white background transparent:

1.Open your image in Photoshop.

2.Click on the “Magic Wand Tool” in the toolbar on the left.

3.Click on the white area of the background. You may need to click multiple times to select all of the white space.

4.Once the entire background is selected, click on “Edit” in the top menu bar and then “Cut” from the drop-down menu.

5.Click on “File” in the top menu bar and then “Save As.”

6.Choose “PNG” from the format drop-down menu and then click “Save.”

And that’s it! Your image now has a transparent background!

PRO TIP: When changing a white background to transparent in Photoshop, it is important to first select the background layer before making any changes. Otherwise, the transparency will not work correctly. Additionally, make sure to use the eraser tool rather than the paint bucket when removing the background color.
