How Do I Create a Menu Bar in Figma?

A menu bar is a graphical control element that allows users to interact with a software application. It is typically located at the top of the window, below the title bar. Menu bars typically contain drop-down menus that provide access to various functions and features of the software application.

In Figma, you can create a menu bar by going to the File > New > Menu Bar option in the top menu bar. This will create a new menu bar frame in your project. You can then add individual menu items by clicking on the + icon in the top left corner of the menu bar frame.

PRO TIP: This article contains outdated information. The Figma interface has changed since this was written, and the instructions in the article no longer work.

Menu items can be customized by double-clicking on them and changing their properties in the Inspector panel on the right side of the screen. For example, you can change the text of a menu item, or its color, size, and font. You can also add icons to menu items by clicking on the Icon property in the Inspector panel and selecting an icon from the icon library.

To add a drop-down menu to a menu item, click on the + icon next to the item in the Inspector panel. This will create a new sub-menu item which you can then customize in the same way as regular menu items. Drop-down menus can contain multiple levels of sub-menus.

Once you have finished creating and customizing your menu bar, you can save it as a component by going to File > Save As > Component. This will allow you to reuse your menu bar in other projects or files.
