How do I dispute on UpWork?

If you have a dispute with a contractor on UpWork, the first step is to submit a dispute request. After you submit the dispute request, UpWork will send the contractor a notification that you have disputed their work. The contractor has 14 days to respond to the dispute. If the contractor does not respond to the dispute, UpWork will consider your dispute resolved.

PRO TIP: If you are planning to dispute a charge on Upwork, be aware that there is a non-refundable $25 fee. Additionally, Upwork charges a 5% processing fee on the total amount of the dispute. Be sure to take these fees into account when deciding whether or not to dispute a charge.

If the contractor responds to the dispute, UpWork will provide them with a copy of your dispute request and the notification that you submitted the dispute. The contractor has the right to respond to your dispute, and UpWork will provide you with a copy of their response. If the contractor does not respond to the dispute or responds in a way that is not satisfactory to you, you can escalate the dispute to a dispute resolution panel.
