How Do I Enable SSL in WooCommerce?

SSL, or Secure Sockets Layer, is a protocol for enabling data encryption on the internet. SSL is most commonly used on websites that require users to enter sensitive information, such as credit card numbers.

When you visit a website that uses SSL, your browser will check to see if the site’s certificate is valid and if so, will establish an encrypted connection with the site. You can tell if a site is using SSL by the https:// in the URL or by the padlock icon in your browser’s address bar.

In order for WooCommerce to function properly, SSL must be enabled on your server. Many hosts will enable SSL by default, but some require you to enable it yourself.

If you’re not sure whether your server has SSL enabled, you can contact your host and ask them to check for you. If they don’t have SSL enabled, they can usually enable it for you.

PRO TIP: If you are not comfortable with making changes to your site’s code, then we recommend that you consult with a qualified developer or WooExpert before proceeding. Making the wrong change to your site’s code can break your site, and potentially cause security issues.

Once your server has SSL enabled, you need to configure WooCommerce to use it. To do this, go to WooCommerce > Settings > Security and check the box next to “Force secure checkouts”.

You should now see the “Secure” padlock icon in your browser’s address bar when viewing your store. Note that this only applies to pages that contain sensitive information like the checkout page. The rest of your store will still be accessible over HTTP.

Conclusion:
Enabling SSL in WooCommerce is a simple process that can be completed in just a few steps. By doing so, you’ll ensure that all sensitive information entered on your site is securely encrypted.
