How Do I Fade in and Fade in Photoshop?

In Photoshop, you can use the Fade command to fade an image or a layer to the background color. You can also fade a selection, a layer mask, or an adjustment layer.

The Fade command is available in the Image menu, the Layer menu, and the Adjustments panel menu.

When you fade an image or layer, the pixels become more transparent so that the background color shows through. The degree of transparency is called the opacity. You can set the opacity of an image or layer by using the Opacity option in the Layers panel or by using a value in the Opacity field in the Info panel.

PRO TIP: If you are not familiar with Photoshop, or if you are new to graphic design, you should not attempt to use the “fade in” or “fade out” functions. These functions can create undesirable results if used improperly.

You can use the Fade command to create a gradient effect, such as fading from one color to another, or from black to white. To create a gradient effect, you must first create two or more layers. Then, select one of the following options in the Fade dialog box:

  • Normal: Applies the default fading method.
  • Multiply: Darkens the base color by multiplying its value with the blend color.
  • Screen: Brightens the base color by screening it with white.

The best way to fade in and out images in Photoshop is to use layers. Layers allow you to apply different effects to different parts of your image without affecting other parts.

To fade in an image, create a new layer and place your image on that layer. Then, set the layer’s opacity to less than 100%. To fade out an image, set the layer’s opacity to more than 100%.
