How Do I Get Squarespace Video to Play on Mobile?

Last updated on October 1, 2022 @ 3:38 am

As one of the most popular site-building and hosting platforms out there, Squarespace offers users a lot of features and flexibility. Unfortunately, one thing it doesn’t offer out of the box is the ability to play video on mobile devices.

This can be a big problem if you want to use video as part of your Squarespace site, but don’t want to exclude mobile visitors. So how can you get Squarespace video to play on mobile?

The good news is that there are a few workarounds that will allow you to get Squarespace video playing on mobile devices. One option is to use a third-party video hosting platform like YouTube or Vimeo and embed the video into your Squarespace site. This has the added benefit of being able to take advantage of all the features and customization options that those platforms offer.

PRO TIP: If you are having trouble getting Squarespace video to play on your mobile device, there are a few things you can try. First, make sure that you have the latest version of the Squarespace app installed. If you’re still having trouble, try restarting your device. If you still can’t get the video to play, please contact Squarespace support.

Another option is to use a plugin like JW Player which will allow you to self-host your video files and stream them through a player that is compatible with mobile devices. This option gives you more control over your videos, but does require a bit more technical know-how.

Finally, if you’re comfortable working with code, you can add a few lines of CSS to your Squarespace site to force videos to play inline on mobile devices. This isn’t an officially supported method, but it does work and is relatively simple to do.

Whichever method you choose, getting Squarespace video to play on mobile devices is relatively easy and should only take a few minutes to set up. So if you’ve been thinking about adding video to your Squarespace site but were worried about excluding mobile visitors, now you don’t have to be!
