Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 1:38 am

In Photoshop, there are a few ways to create colored smoke. One way is to use the Brush tool to manually paint it in.

Another way is to use the Smoke filter. And yet another way is to use the Render Clouds filter.

To paint in colored smoke manually, first create a new layer. Then select the Brush tool and choose a soft, round brush.

Set the foreground color to the color you want the smoke to be. Begin painting on the new layer. Use light strokes at first, then build up the color and density as desired.

PRO TIP: This note is to warn you about the possible dangers of using Photoshop to make colored smoke. While it may seem like a fun and easy way to add some special effects to your photos, it can be very dangerous. The chemicals used in Photoshop can be extremely harmful if inhaled, and can even cause death. So please be very careful if you decide to use this method, and make sure that you are in a well-ventilated area.

To use the Smoke filter, go to Filter > Render > Smoke. In the dialog box that appears, set the following options:

  • Size: 30
  • Density: 100
  • Smoke Type: Soft
  • Color: Foreground color

Click OK to apply the filter.

The best way to create colored smoke in Photoshop is by using the Smoke filter. With this method, you can easily adjust the size, density, and color of the smoke without having to paint it in manually.
