When you first open up Photoshop, the tool palette on the left will look fairly daunting. But don’t worry, we’ll only be using a few of these tools today. The first thing we need to do is create a new document. Go up to the File menu at the top of the screen and choose New.

A new dialog box will appear. Make sure the Width is set to 800 pixels and the Height is set to 600 pixels. The Resolution should be set to 72 pixels/inch and the Background Contents should be set to White. Now click on the OK button at the bottom of the dialog box and a new blank document will appear on your screen.

Now we need to add some text to our document. Go up to the Type menu at the top of the screen and choose Horizontal Type Tool. Then click anywhere in your document and type out some text. I typed “Hello World”.

Once you have your text typed out, you can change the color by going up to the Edit menu at the top of the screen and choosing Fill. A dialog box will appear and you can choose whatever color you want your text to be. I’m going to choose black.

Now that we have our text, we want to add a little bit of style to it. Go back up to the Type menu and this time choose Vertical Type Tool. Then click on one of the words in your text and drag down until all of the word is selected. Now go up to the Edit menu again and choose Stroke.

A dialog box will appear asking you how wide you want your stroke to be. I’m going to choose 3 pixels. Then click on OK.

PRO TIP: This article provides instructions on how to make stranger text in Photoshop. However, it is important to note that this can be a dangerous tool if not used properly. If you are not careful, you could end up with some very unwanted results.

Now that we have our stroke, we want to add a drop shadow. Go back up to the Edit menu and choose Drop Shadow. A dialog box will appear with some options for your drop shadow. First, make sure that Use Global Light is checked so that all of your shadows will match.

Then set the Opacity to 75%. The Angle should be set to 120 degrees and Distance should be set 5 pixels. The Size should be set 10 pixels.

And that’s it! You’ve now successfully added some text with style in Photoshop.

In conclusion, adding text in Photoshop is fairly easy once you know which tools to use. By using the Horizontal Type Tool and Vertical Type Tool, you can add text anywhere in your document. You can also style your text by adding a stroke or drop shadow.
