How Do I Open a JSON File in Figma?

JSON, or JavaScript Object Notation, is a lightweight data-interchange format. It is easy for humans to read and write. It is easy for machines to parse and generate. It is based on a subset of the JavaScript Programming Language, Standard ECMA-262 3rd Edition – December 1999. JSON is a text format that is completely language independent but uses conventions that are familiar to programmers of the C-family of languages (C, C++, JavaScript, etc).

These properties make JSON an ideal data-interchange language.

Figma supports the ability to import JSON files in order to style text. In order to open a JSON file in Figma, first select “File” from the top bar menu, then choose “Open from..” from the dropdown menu. Finally, locate and select the JSON file you wish to open. The file will then be imported into Figma.

PRO TIP: If you’re trying to open a JSON file in Figma, be aware that it won’t work unless the file is formatted correctly. Make sure that your JSON file has the correct syntax before trying to open it in Figma.

So there you have it! You can now open JSON files in Figma in order to style text according to your preferences. Happy Figma-ing!
