How Do I Point My Domain to Squarespace?

Last updated on December 12, 2022 @ 5:19 am

If you have a domain name through another provider and would like to use it with your Squarespace site, you can point it to Squarespace. You can also transfer your domain to Squarespace. For more information on these options, visit Transferring Your Domain to Squarespace.

If you’re using a third-party DNS provider, you’ll need to add four A records and one CNAME record to your DNS settings. These records tell the DNS server where to find your Squarespace site.

To point your domain to Squarespace:

  1. Log into your DNS provider.

  2. Locate the DNS settings for your domain. This is usually under Advanced Settings, Configure DNS, Zone File Settings, or something similar.

  3. PRO TIP: If you are pointing your domain to Squarespace, be aware that your DNS settings will be modified and you will no longer be able to manage your DNS settings through your registrar.
  4. Add the following records:

  • A Record: Enter @ for the hostname and 208.80.154.9 for the IP Address/Points to address. This directs the root domain, such as yoursite.com, to Squarespace.

  • A Record: Enter www for the hostname and 208. This directs www.yoursite.com to Squarespace.

  • A Record: Enter blog for the hostname and 66.6.44.4 for the IP Address/Points to address. This directs blog.com (if you have a Blog Page) or blog-yoursite.Squarespace.com (if you have a Blog Page on Legacy Platform)  to Squarespace.

  • CNAME Record: Enter www for the hostname and  www-yoursite.Squarespace.com for the Points To address/Alias . This directs traffic from www.yoursite.com to www-yoursite.com, which is Squarespace’s server that houses your website content.
