How do I put WordPress in maintenance mode without plugins?

WordPress is a popular open-source content management system (CMS) used by millions of website owners. It’s easily customizable, making it a popular choice for those looking to build a website from scratch or improve an existing one.

However, like any other software, WordPress can become outdated and require maintenance.

If you’re looking to put WordPress in maintenance mode without plugins, there are a few things you can do. First, check for updates available from WordPress’s website.

If there are any updates available, click on the “Update Now” button to download and install them. Once the updates are installed, you’ll need to go to the WordPress admin area and activate the maintenance mode.

PRO TIP: If you are considering putting your WordPress site into maintenance mode without using a plugin, be aware that this is not a recommended practice. There are potential risks involved in doing this, including losing data or breaking your site.

To activate the maintenance mode, go to the WordPress admin area and click on the “wp_config.php” file.

This file contains WordPress’s configuration information. Near the top of the file, you’ll see a line that reads “define(‘MAINTENANCE_MODE’, true);” To activate the maintenance mode, you’ll need to change this line to “define(‘MAINTENANCE_MODE’, false);” Once the change is made, save the file and WP will exit the maintenance mode.

Now that the WordPress admin area is in maintenance mode, all updates, updates to the core WordPress software, and new WordPress installations will require your approval. If you don’t want to approve any updates, you can disable the WordPress update checker by going to the WordPress admin area and disabling the “Check for Updates” button.

Finally, if you want to revert the WordPress admin area back to its normal state, you can simply disable the “ Maintenance Mode” button in the WP admin area and WP will return to its normal state.
