How Do I Set Up Weight Based Shipping on Shopify?

Last updated on October 1, 2022 @ 5:20 pm

It’s no secret that shipping can be one of the biggest costs associated with selling online. One way to help offset these costs is to offer weight-based shipping.

This means that your shipping rates are based on the weight of the products being shipped. In this article, we’ll show you how to set up weight-based shipping on Shopify.

There are a few things you’ll need to do in order to set up weight-based shipping on Shopify:

1. Create Shipping Zones
The first thing you’ll need to do is create shipping zones.

Shipping zones are simply the geographic areas that you ship to. For example, you may have a shipping zone for the United States, Canada, and International.

PRO TIP: Before you set up weight based shipping on Shopify, please be aware that this shipping method can be inaccurate if your products vary in weight. If you have products that vary in weight, we recommend using dimensional weight shipping instead.

2. Add Shipping Rates
Once you’ve created your shipping zones, you’ll need to add shipping rates.

Shipping rates are the actual rates that you charge for shipping. For example, you may charge $5 for shipping within the United States, $10 for shipping to Canada, and $15 for international shipping.

3. Enable Weight Based Shipping
The last thing you’ll need to do is enable weight based shipping from your Shopify settings.

This can be found under Settings > Shipping. Once you’ve enabled weight based shipping, you’ll need to enter your default weights and dimensions for your products.

Weight based shipping is a great way to offset the costs of shipping. By charging your customers based on the weight of their order, you can ensure that you’re not losing money on shipping.
