How do I SSH into a Linode server?

Last updated on September 25, 2022 @ 1:05 pm

If you want to SSH into a Linode, the first step is to determine the IP address of the Linode. To do this, use the ifconfig command:

ifconfig

The output of this command will list all of the network interfaces on the machine, as well as the IP address for each one. To find the IP address for the Linode’s eth0 interface, use the following command:

ifconfig eth0

The resulting IP address will be 192.168.

1.100.

To SSH into the Linode, you will first need to know the IP address of the Linode’s Linode1 interface. To find this, use the ifconfig command again, but this time use the Linode1 keyword instead of the eth0 keyword. The resulting ifconfig command will look something like this:

PRO TIP: When SSHing into a Linode server, be sure to use a strong and unique password. Do not use a password that you use for any other accounts, as this could lead to your Linode server being compromised. Additionally, be sure to keep your SSH key safe and secure, as this is the only way to access your Linode server if you lose your password.

ifconfig Linode1

The Linode1 interface will have an IP address of 192.101.

Next, you will need to use the ssh command to connect to the Linode. To do this, use the following command:

ssh Linode1@192.

Once you have logged in, you will be presented with a login prompt. Type your Linode username and password, and press Enter to log in.
