If you’re running an eCommerce store on WordPress, chances are good that you’re using WooCommerce. WooCommerce is a popular eCommerce plugin that enables you to turn your WordPress site into a fully-functional online store.

While WooCommerce is a solid platform, it’s important to keep it up-to-date to ensure that you’re getting the most out of it. In this article, we’ll show you how to update WooCommerce to the latest version.

Before You Update

Before you update WooCommerce, there are a few things you should do to prepare:

PRO TIP: If you are running a WooCommerce store, it is important to keep your WooCommerce plugin up-to-date. Failure to do so may result in your store becoming vulnerable to security threats or experiencing compatibility issues.
  • Back up your site: This is always a good idea before making any major changes to your site. That way, if something goes wrong during the update process, you can restore your site from the backup.
  • Update your theme and plugins: If you’re using an out-of-date theme or plugin, it could cause compatibility issues with the new version of WooCommerce.Be sure to update all of your themes and plugins before updating WooCommerce.
  • Deactivate any non-essential plugins: If you have any plugins activated that aren’t absolutely necessary for your store, deactivate them before updating WooCommerce. That way, if there are any compatibility issues, you can narrow down which plugin is causing the problem.

How to Update WooCommerce Automatically (Recommended)

The easiest way to update WooCommerce is to do it automatically. You can do this by connecting your WordPress site to WooCommerce.com.

Once connected, WooCommerce will be able to automatically install updates for itself and all of your installed plugins (including WooCommerce). To connect your site, follow these steps:

    1. Log in to your WordPress site and go to “WooCommerce > Settings”. On the “General” tab, scroll down to the “Connect” section and click on the “Connect” button.
    2. A popup window will appear asking you to log in or create a new account on WooCommerce. If you don’t have an account yet, click on the “Create an account” link and follow the prompts to create one.
    3. Once you’re logged in or have created an account, click on the “Allow access” button to grant WooCommerc permission to install updates on your site.
    4. (Optional) If you want WooCommerceto automatically install updates for all of your active plugins (not just WooCommerc), check the box next to “Also enable auto updates for active plugins.” Then click on the “Finish Connection & Enable Automatic Updates.”
