How do I use the eraser tool in Illustrator?

If you are new to Illustrator, the eraser tool may seem confusing at first. However, with a little bit of practice, you will be able to use the eraser tool to delete specific parts of your artwork with precision.

To use the eraser tool, first select the tool by clicking on the small, black arrow in the toolbar. Next, click and hold down the mouse button over the area of your artwork that you want to delete.

PRO TIP: Be sure to select the object you wish to erase first, then click on the eraser tool and begin erasing. If you do not select an object first, you will simply be erasing the background.

When the cursor changes to a pencil, release the button and the artwork will be erased.

Be careful not to erase too much of your artwork or you will have to start over. To undo a deletion, simply select the eraser tool and click the area of your artwork that you want to restore.
