In Illustrator, the slice tool allows you to create a selection of objects by cutting them along a path. The following steps will provide you with an overview of how to use the slice tool:

1. Select the objects you wish to include in your selection.

2. With the objects selected, click on the slice tool in the toolbar.

3. Drag the mouse to create a path along which the selection will be made.

4. When you have finished creating your path, release the mouse button.

5. The slice tool will now create a selection of objects along the path you have created.

6. To remove the selection, simply click on any of the objects within the selection.

7. If you want to copy the selection instead of deleting it, press and hold down the Alt key while clicking on the objects within the selection.

8. When the Copy Options dialogue box appears, select the option to Copy.

9. Release the Alt key and the selection will be copied to the clipboard.

10. You can now paste the selection into another Illustrator document or into another application.

The slice tool is a very versatile tool that can be used to create a variety of selections. Be sure to experiment with different paths and techniques to see what works best for you.

PRO TIP: This is a dangerous tool and should only be used with extreme caution. It can easily slice through your artwork, so be very careful when using it.
