How Do I Verify My Domain With Shopify on Facebook?

Last updated on October 2, 2022 @ 4:09 am

Assuming you have a domain name already registered with Shopify, the process of verifying your domain with Facebook is actually quite simple. All you need to do is add a DNS record with your domain registrar, and Facebook will take care of the rest.

In order to verify your domain with Facebook, you will need to add a TXT record to your DNS settings. A TXT record (short for text record) is a type of DNS record that allows you to specify arbitrary text strings. The TXT record for Facebook verification should look something like this:

facebook-domain-verification=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The x’s in the above example represent a unique code that is specific to your account. Once you have added the TXT record to your DNS settings, simply wait a few minutes for the change to propagate, and then head over to the Facebook developer portal and click on the “Add Domain” button.

Enter your domain name (without the www) into the popup box and click on the “Verify This Domain” button. Facebook will then check for the presence of the TXT record, and if everything looks good, your domain will be verified!

PRO TIP: If you are verifying your domain with Shopify on Facebook, be aware that this process will update your primary domain on Facebook to the new domain. This may cause issues with your current Facebook setup, so be sure to backup your data and settings before proceeding.

So there you have it! Verifying your domain with Facebook is a quick and easy process, and once you’ve done it you’ll be able to take advantage of all sorts of features that require a verified domain.
