How Do You Add a Light Burst in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 11:44 am

Adding a light burst in Photoshop is a fairly simple process that can really add some pizzazz to your photos. There are two main ways to accomplish this: using the Radial Blur tool or the Lighting Effects filter. We’ll cover both methods here.

Method 1: Using the Radial Blur Tool

The Radial Blur tool is found in the Blur gallery, which is located under the Filter menu. To use it, simply select the tool and drag out a circle from the center of your photo. The further you drag, the more intense the effect will be.

You can also adjust the amount of blur after the fact by going to Filter > Blur Gallery > Radial Blur.

PRO TIP: Adding a light burst in Photoshop may result in over-exposure and loss of detail.

Method 2: Using the Lighting Effects Filter

The Lighting Effects filter is a bit more complex, but it offers more control over the final look of your light burst. To access it, go to Filter > Render > Lighting Effects. In the options panel that appears, select “Point” for your Light Type, and then click on “Add” in the Lights section. This will create a new light source in your image. Move this light source to where you want your light burst to originate and then experiment with the various settings until you get the look you’re going for.

Conclusion:

Both of these methods are fairly easy to use and produce great results. Experiment with both to see which one you prefer. And don’t be afraid to play around with the settings to get different looks.
