With this tool selected, click and drag to create a text box of any size. The second way to add a text box is to use the “Shape” tool. With this tool selected, click and drag to create a rectangular shape. Once you have created the shape, double-click on it to open the “Type” layer window.

Here you can enter your text. The third way to add a text box is to use the “Pen” tool. With this tool selected, click and drag to create a path. Once you have created the path, double-click on it to open the “Type” layer window. Here you can enter your text.

PRO TIP: Adding a text box in Photoshop can be tricky and if not done correctly, can result in unwanted results. Be sure to carefully select the layer you want to add the text box to and create a new layer for the text box. Once you have the new layer created, use the Type tool to create your text box. Be sure to size the text box appropriately and add any desired formatting. When you are finished, you can merge the two layers together.
