How Do You Add Weathering Effects in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 12:36 pm

Adding weathering effects to photos is a popular way to give them an aged or distressed look. Photoshop has a number of filters and tools that can be used to create these kinds of effects.

One of the most basic weathering effects is adding a vignette. This can be done by creating a new layer and filling it with black. Then, use the elliptical marquee tool to create a circular selection in the center of the image.

Go to Edit > Feather and enter a value of about 50 pixels. Invert the selection (Select > Invert) and press delete. This will create a soft black border around the photo.

PRO TIP: Weathering effects can be added to Photoshop by using the ‘Render’ filter. This will add realistic weathering effects to your image, but be aware that it can also damage your image if not used carefully.

Another easy way to add weathering effects is by adding a film grain effect. This can be done by going to Filter > Noise > Add Noise. Adjust the amount and distribution until you get the desired effect.

For more advanced weathering effects, you can use Photoshop’s brushes and eraser tools. First, create a new layer and set the mode to “Overlay” or “Soft Light”.

Then, use a black brush to paint over areas you want to darken. You can also use the eraser tool with a soft edge to lightly erase parts of the photo and give it a worn look.

There are endless possibilities when it comes to weathering effects in Photoshop. With a little experimentation, you can create any kind of aged or distressed look you want!
