How Do You Animate Smoke in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 11:45 am

When it comes to animating smoke in Photoshop, there are a few things you need to know. First, you need to create a new layer. Then, you need to make sure that your foreground and background colors are set to black and white.

Next, you need to select the brush tool and choose a soft round brush. Once you have your brush selected, you need to set your brush opacity to around 20%. Now, you’re ready to start painting smoke!

To paint smoke, you need to use quick, short strokes. Start with the lightest areas of smoke and then build up the density in the darker areas. Remember to vary your brush strokes so that the smoke doesn’t look too uniform.

PRO TIP: This tutorial is for advanced Photoshop users only. Do not attempt this tutorial unless you are confident in your Photoshop skills.

Once you’re happy with the way your smoke looks, you need to animate it. To do this, go to the ‘window’ menu and select ‘timeline’.

This will open up the timeline panel. Make sure that your timeline is set to ‘create video timeline’. Then, click on the ‘create frame animation’ button.

Now, all you need to do is select each frame of your animation and hit the play button! Your smoke should now be animated and looking great!
