How Do You Change the Size of a Selection in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 23, 2022 @ 11:34 pm

In Photoshop, you can change the size of a selection in two ways: by using the Selection tool or by using the Crop tool.

With the Selection tool, you can click and drag on the edge of a selection to resize it. To constrain the selection to a square or circle, hold down the Shift key while you click and drag. To resize from the center of a selection, hold down the Alt (Windows) or Option (Mac OS) key while you click and drag.

PRO TIP: How Do You Change the Size of a Selection in Photoshop?

If you’re not careful, you can easily change the size of your selection in Photoshop, and this can have some unwanted consequences. For example, if you make your selection too small, you may not be able to select the entire object or area that you want. Or, if you make your selection too large, you may end up selecting more than you intended.

To avoid these problems, it’s important to be precise when you’re changing the size of your selection. Pay attention to the units of measurement that you’re using, and make sure that you’re using the same units for both the width and height of your selection. Also, be careful when you’re using the Transform tool to resize your selection; if you don’t hold down the Shift key while you’re resizing, you may distort your selection.

To use the Crop tool, select it from the Tools palette, then click and drag on the image to draw a cropping rectangle. To constrain the crop to a square or circle, hold down the Shift key while you click and drag. To resize from the center of the crop, hold down the Alt (Windows) or Option (Mac OS) key while you click and drag.

You can also enter specific values for Width and Height in the options bar. For more control over how Photoshop resizes your image when you change its width and height, choose Edit > Preferences > General (Windows) or Photoshop > Preferences > General (Mac OS), and select an interpolation method from the Image Interpolation menu.
