How do you erase in Illustrator?

Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 7:01 pm

There are a few ways to erase in Illustrator: using the Eraser tool, the Delete tool, the Direct Selection tool, the Path Selection tool, or the Polygonal Lasso tool.

The Eraser tool can be used to erase individual pixels, vector paths, or entire objects. To erase an object, first select it with the Path Selection tool, and then use the Eraser tool to erase the object.

PRO TIP: When erasing in Adobe Illustrator, it is important to be aware that the default mode is to erase while preserving the underlying objects. This means that if you accidentally erase part of an object, you can simply undo the action and the object will be restored. However, if you change the mode to “Erase All”, then all objects beneath the eraser will be permanently deleted. Use this mode with caution!

The Delete tool can be used to delete pixels, vector paths, or entire objects. To delete an object, first select it with the Path Selection tool, and then use the Delete tool to delete the object.

The Direct Selection tool can be used to select individual pixels, vector paths, or entire objects. To select an object, first use the Path Selection tool to select the object, and then use the Direct Selection tool to select the object.

The Polygonal Lasso tool can be used to select vector paths. To select a vector path, first use the Path Selection tool to select the path, and then use the Polygonal Lasso tool to select the path.
