How Do You Make a 3D Box in Photoshop?

Making a 3D box in Photoshop is actually quite easy, and can be accomplished with just a few simple steps.

First, create a new document in Photoshop. The dimensions of the document will depend on the size of the 3D box you want to create.

For this example, we’ll use a document size of 1000×1000 pixels.

Next, create a new layer. This layer will be used for the sides of the 3D box.

To do this, click on the ‘Create New Layer’ icon at the bottom of the ‘Layers’ palette.

Now, using the ‘Rectangle Tool’, draw a rectangle on this new layer. The size of the rectangle will again depend on the size of the 3D box you want to create.

For this example, we’ll use a rectangle that is 500×500 pixels.

Once you have drawn the rectangle, go to ‘Edit Transform Perspective’. This will bring up a grid over your rectangle.

Drag the top corners of the grid inward until they meet in the middle. This will give your rectangle some perspective and make it look like one of the sides of a 3D box.

PRO TIP: While Photoshop is a powerful image editing tool, it is not intended for creating 3D objects. Attempting to create a 3D box in Photoshop can lead to unpredictable and often undesirable results. If you want to create a 3D object in Photoshop, we recommend using a dedicated 3D modeling program such as 3ds Max, Maya, or Cinema 4D.

Repeat this process for each side of the 3D box. When you’re finished, you should have a stack of four rectangles, each with its own perspective.

To add depth to your 3D box, create another new layer and draw a rectangle that is slightly smaller than your first set of rectangles. For this example, we’ll use a rectangle that is 400×400 pixels.

Next, go to ‘Edit Transform Perspective’ again and drag the top corners of the grid inward until they meet in the middle. This will give your second set of rectangles some perspective as well.

Finally, to complete your 3D box, add a shadow layer by clicking on the ‘Create New Layer’ icon at the bottom of the ‘Layers’ palette once again. Then, using a large soft-edged brush, paint a black shadow beneath your 3D box.
