How Do You Make a Placeholder in Figma?

Last updated on September 28, 2022 @ 10:48 pm

A placeholder is a design element in Figma that allows you to quickly drag and drop an image into your prototype. To create a placeholder, select the frame where you want the image to appear and click on the “Placeholder” button in the toolbar.

When you click on the “Placeholder” button, a new dialog box will appear. In this dialog box, you can choose the size of your placeholder.

PRO TIP: If you are not familiar with Figma, we recommend that you do not attempt to make a placeholder in the program. Making a placeholder in Figma can be complicated and may result in unexpected results.

The options are “Small”, “Medium”, and “Large”. Once you have chosen the size of your placeholder, click on the “OK” button.

Your placeholder will now appear in the frame. To add an image to your placeholder, simply drag and drop an image from your computer into the frame.
