The glass effect is one of the most popular effects used in Photoshop. It’s a very versatile effect that can be used to create a variety of different looks. In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to create a basic glass effect using a couple of different layer styles.

To start, create a new document in Photoshop. We’re going to use a photo of a wine glass for this tutorial, but you can use any photo you like.

Next, add a new layer and fill it with black. Then, set the layer mode to Overlay.

Now, we’re going to add some noise to the Black layer by going to Filter > Noise > Add Noise. Add about 10% noise and click OK.

Next, we’re going to add a Bevel and Emboss effect to the Black layer. To do this, go to Layer > Layer Style > Bevel and Emboss. Use the following settings:

Style: Inner Bevel
Technique: Chisel Hard
Depth: 100%
Size: 5px
Angle: 120°
Altitude: 30°
Gloss Contour: Ring
Highlight Mode: Screen
Opacity: 75%
Shadow Mode: Multiply
Color: #000000
Opacity: 75%

Now we’re going to add a second Bevel and Emboss effect to the Black layer. This time, we’re going to use the following settings:

Style: Inner Bevel
Technique: Chisel Hard
Depth: 100%
Size: 5px
Angle: -120°
Altitude: 30°
Gloss Contour: Ring

Highlight Mode: Screen
Opacity: 75%
Shadow Mode: Multiply
Color: #000000
Opacity: 75%

Now we’re going to add a third Bevel and Emboss effect to the Black layer. This time, we’re going to use the following settings:
Style: Inner Bevel
Technique: Chisel Hard
Depth: 50%
Size: 10px

Angle:-60°
Altitude: 30°

Highlight Mode: Screen
Opacity: 75%

Shadow Mode : Multiply

Color:#000000

Opacity : 75%

Now we’re going to add a fourth and final Bevel and Emboss effect to the Black layer. This time, we’re going to use the following settings :

PRO TIP: The glass effect in Photoshop can produce some stunning results. However, it’s important to remember that this effect is best used sparingly. Overusing the glass effect can make your image look artificial and can be hard on the eyes.

Style : Stroke emboss

Position : Outside

Size : 5px

Fill Type : Gradient Overlay

Gradient : Foreground to Background

Angle : -90°

Scale : 150%

Click OK when you’re done.

Now we’re going to add a Drop Shadow effect to the Black layer. To do this, go to Layer > Layer Style > Drop Shadow. Use the following settings :

Blend Mode : Multiply

Color : #000000

Opacity : 35%

Angle : 120°

Distance : 5px

Spread : 0%

Size : 5px

Click OK when you’re done.
