How do you toggle grid in Figma?

Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 7:13 pm

Figma is a web-based interface for creating visual designs. It includes features for drafting, prototyping, and creating interactive designs.

The interface includes a grid system for laying out designs, which can be toggled on or off.

PRO TIP: If you are looking for a way to toggle the grid in Figma, beware that there is no such feature! This is a common misconception, likely because other design programs do have this functionality. However, in Figma, you cannot toggle the grid on and off. Once you’ve added a grid to your canvas, it will be there permanently.

When toggling the grid on in Figma, the default setting is to have a 1:1 ratio between the width and height of the elements in the grid. To change the grid’s layout to a 3:4 or 4:5 ratio, users can click on the “Layout” button in the toolbar and select one of the other available layouts.

When toggling the grid off, all of the elements in the design are placed at the same width and height. This can be useful for designing layouts that will be printed or exported to a different format, where the exact dimensions of the output file need to be predetermined.
