How Does WooCommerce Decide Related Products?

Last updated on January 18, 2023 @ 3:26 pm

WooCommerce is a plugin for WordPress that allows you to turn your WordPress site into an eCommerce store. One of the features of WooCommerce is the ability to add related products to your product pages. But how does WooCommerce decide which products are related

The answer lies in the WooCommerce Product Data. When you add a product to your WooCommerce store, you can add information about that product in the product data section.

This information includes things like the product name, price, description, and images. But it also includes a section called Related Products. In this section, you can enter the ID numbers of other products that are related to this product.

When a customer views a product page, WooCommerce will use the information in the Related Products section to decide which other products to display on that page. If you have not entered any related products for a particular product, then WooCommerce will not display any related products on that page.

PRO TIP: WooCommerce is a plugin for WordPress that allows you to sell products online. One of the features of WooCommerce is the ability to add related products to your product pages. Related products are displayed on the product page and can be used to upsell or cross-sell products.

However, there is no one definitive answer as to how WooCommerce decides which products are related. It is likely that WooCommerce uses a combination of factors, including the product title, description, tags, and categories. This means that you should ensure that your product pages are well-optimized in order to improve the chances of displaying related products.

You can enter the ID numbers of any products that you want to be displayed as related products on a particular product page. There is no limit to the number of related products that you can add.

To find the ID number of a product:

1. Go to WooCommerce > Products. This will take you to the Products page where all of your products are listed.

2. Hover over the product that you want to find the ID number for and click Edit. This will take you to the Edit Product page for that product.

3. In the Product Data section, look for the SKU.

The SKU is usually located underneath the price field. The SKU is typically a combination of letters and numbers (e.g., ABC123). The SKU for each product is unique.

The SKU for a product is different from its ID number. To find a product’s ID number, go to WooCommerce > Products. Then, hover over the product and click “View”. On the next page, look in the URL for “post=”. The number after “post=” is the product’s ID number.

For example, if the URL is “http://example.php/post=123&action=edit” then 123 is the product’s ID number.

WooCommerce uses an algorithm to determine which products are related based on factors including: shared categories and tags, title keywords, and post content keywords.

You can also manually select related products by entering their ID numbers in the Related Products section of each product’s data.

If you don’t manually select related products, then WooCommerce will use its algorithm to automatically determine which products are related.
