How Much RAM Should I Let Photoshop Use?

As a general rule, you should always allow Photoshop to use as much RAM as possible. This is because Photosho p is a very resource intensive program and will often need all the RAM it can get to run smoothly.

There are, however, a few exceptions to this rule. If you are working with very large files, or if you are running multiple programs at the same time, you may need to limit the amount of RAM Photoshop uses.

PRO TIP: If you are not careful, you could end up allocating too much RAM to Photoshop, which could lead to performance issues on your computer.

To do this, open Photoshop and go to Edit > Preferences > Performance. Here you will see a slider that allows you to change the amount of RAM Photoshop uses. Simply move the slider to the desired setting and click OK.

Keep in mind that the more RAM you allow Photoshop to use, the better it will perform. So, if you have the option, always err on the side of giving Photoshop more RAM than it needs.
