Is Photoshop Free and Open Source?

Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 11:29 am

Adobe Photoshop is a widely used raster graphics editor developed and published by Adobe Inc. It is available for macOS and Windows platforms.

Photoshop was created in 1988 by Thomas and John Knoll. Since then, it has become the de facto industry standard in raster graphics editing, to the point that it has also become an entry-level standard for graphic designers and digital artists.

PRO TIP: Warning: Is Photoshop Free and Open Source?

No, Photoshop is not free or open source. It is a proprietary software application from Adobe.

While Photoshop is not free or open source software, there are a number of free and open source alternatives to Photoshop available. Some of these include GIMP, Inkscape, and Krita.

So, while Photoshop itself is not free or open source, there are plenty of excellent free and open source alternatives available.
