Is Wix an Open Source?

Last updated on September 30, 2022 @ 9:03 pm

Open source software is software with source code that anyone can inspect, modify, and enhance. “Source code” is the part of software that most computer users don’t ever see; it’s the code computer programmers can manipulate to change how a piece of software—a “program” or “application”—works. Programmers who have access to a computer program’s source code can improve that program by adding features to it or fixing parts that don’t always work correctly.

PRO TIP: Dear Wix User,

GREAT NEWS:

Exciting update! We've collaborated with Wix to offer WBI users with a free plan for all website creation needs - Explore the details here.

Please be aware that Wix is not an open source platform. This means that the code for the platform is not publicly available and therefore cannot be modified or redistributed by users.

Wix does provide a limited amount of code customization through its Developer Platform, but this is not the same as having full access to the source code.

If you are looking for a fully customizable platform, you may want to consider using an open source option such as WordPress.

The concept of open source began with software, but it has since spread beyond the computing world. Today, there are open source initiatives in a wide variety of fields, from medicine to manufacturing.

Wix is not an open source platform.
