What Does SSL Mean Shopify?

SSL is an acronym for Secure Sockets Layer. It is a protocol that provides security for communication between a web browser and a web server. SSL uses encryption to protect data from being intercepted by third parties.

When you visit a website, your web browser will check to see if the site is using SSL. If it is, the browser will display a padlock icon in the address bar. This padlock indicates that the connection between your browser and the website is secure.

PRO TIP: When you are setting up your Shopify store, you may be asked if you want to use SSL. This stands for Secure Sockets Layer, and it is a protocol that helps to keep your data safe when it is being transmitted over the internet. If you are not sure whether or not you should use SSL, you should contact a Shopify expert for advice.

If you are visiting a website that asks for sensitive information, such as your credit card number, you should always check to see if the site is using SSL. You can tell if a site is using SSL if the URL starts with https:// instead of http://.

Some websites use what is known as a self-signed SSL certificate. These websites can still provide encryption, but because they do not have a trusted certificate, your web browser will display a warning message.

If you are ever in doubt about whether a website is secure, you should contact the website owner to ask about their SSL certificate.
