If you want to be a user interface (UI) designer, you’ll need an education in graphic design, user experience design, and computer science. UI design is a field that bridges the gap between graphic design and user experience design, which is the design of interactions between people and technology.

An education in graphic design will give you the skills to create effective user interfaces and interaction designs. A good user experience design education will teach you how to think about users and their needs from a design perspective.

PRO TIP: UI UX Designer roles can vary greatly, so there is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question. However, as a UI UX Designer, you will likely need at least a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as graphic design, interaction design, or human-computer interaction. You will also need strong communication and collaborative skills, as well as experience with user research and testing.

You’ll also learn how to use software such as Inkscape and Illustrator to create graphics.

Computer science will give you the skills necessary to design and develop user interfaces and interactions. You’ll also need to know how to use software such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

To become a UI UX designer, you’ll need to have an undergraduate degree in graphic design, user experience design, or computer science. You may also be eligible for a graduate degree in UI UX design.
